India's state of Jammu and Kashmir exported more than 2 million metric ton of Apples in a year before the global pandemic COVID-19 struck, according to government figures. A significant population of Kashmiris depend on the horticulture industry of which production and export of Apples is a major part.
First, the abrogation of Article 370 put a sudden brake in the transportation and storage of Apples produced in the 2019 season. Later, another lockdown in the form of COVID-19 put a double blow to the already struggling industry.
